Valentine’s Day is easily one of the most dreaded times of the year, if you’re single and spending it alone or if you’re taken and can’t think of what to get your other half, a Valentine’s movie night is the perfect solution to everyone’s problems! Here is a list of everything you’ll need for a perfect Valentine’s movie night!
Food and Drink
Good snacks are an essential part of any movie night, but for Valentine’s it’s super important that your snacks and drinks are chosen specifically to make the night extra special.
Nachos are easily one of my favourite snacks of all time, and they’re great for movie nights. The easiest way to prepare Nachos are to grab a bag of Doritos or plain tortilla chips, line them up in a baking tray, layer on some cheese and jalapeños and stick them in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted. Another great snack is popcorn. Popcorn is the go-to movie night snack, and I recommend a great recipe from fellow blogger Laura Mills, whose popcorn is super cute and tasty. The white chocolate & heart sprinkles really make this movie night treat extra romantic!
My favourite drink to share on any romantic movie night is wine. Echo Falls Fruit Fusion is currently my favourite wine, and it comes in loads of great fruit flavours all of which would be perfect for Valentine’s! If you can’t or don’t drink, a good alternative to wine is some pink lemonade, which you can find in most supermarkets for a good price! Any other pink drink will work fine, just make sure you serve in some super cute glasses or cups to match your snacks and you’re good to go!
Obviously, the main component of any successful movie night is a good selection of films! Valentine’s movie nights aren’t too tricky as there’s loads of romantic films out there, but if you or your partner aren’t massive fans of romantic mushy films, I’ve included some films that will still keep you both in a loving mood without boring you too much!
Lost in Translation (2003)
This is easily one of the best romance films of all time, and that’s because it’s not necessarily trying to be romantic and mushy. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson are an unlikely but brilliant on-screen duo. A great film if you’re not after a cliche or cringe-worthy pick this Valentine’s.
Romeo + Juliet (1996)
On the other end of the spectrum you can find the love of my life Leonardo Dicaprio, breaking my heart and making me cry like a baby in Romeo & Juliet. Probably better-suited to those of you spending Valentine’s alone, but the romance and chemistry between DiCaprio and Claire Danes in this flick make it perfectly watchable for any couple.
Partner a massive geek? No worries, Deadpool is the ultimate superhero romance story (Ryan Reynolds even says so in the film!) It’s got enough action and comedy to keep you entertained, but will still make you feel all gooey inside in the end, so it’s the perfect choice this Valentine’s Day.
True Romance (1993)
One of my all-time favourite films, written by the genius that is Quentin Tarantino and starring heart-throb Christian Slater, True Romance isn’t a conventional romance but it sure will set the mood if you’re after something a little different. It has crime, action, great dialogue and just enough of the mushy stuff to keep you in the Valentine’s mood.
