I’ll be honest; I’m a bit cheap when it comes to makeup. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about affordable quality, but I don’t own many high-end brand products. I recently thought it was time to dive into the world of luxury beauty, and wanted to share my experience of the new brands I’m loving that are 100% worth their price tag.
Kat Von D; Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita, Lock It Setting Powder
I’ve really lusted after some KVD products for ages; I’ve always seen amazing reviews of her stuff & love her style of packaging. When I decided to do this post, I wanted to keep my budget below £150 – a struggle, I tell you. I decided to get one of her Studded Kiss Lipsticks in the shade Lolita, and her Lock-It Setting Powder. The packaging for both is traditional KVD-style with strong gothic vibes. The lipstick has a really satin finish, perfect if you want a pigmented matte lip that doesn’t dry out too much. The setting powder is also really great quality, I’m pretty lazy with baking but this is a super easy powder to apply and bake with, and helps keep my concealer and foundation in place for hours!
Too Faced; Love Flush Blusher, Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette, Hangover Primer
I know, shocker, I’ve never tried any Too Faced products before. Adored by bloggers everywhere, now including myself. I picked up their Love Flush Blusher in the shade Justify My Love, and it’s honestly one of the best products in my collection. The packaging is super cute, it kinda reminds me of something you’d see a Disney Princess using! It’s also a gorgeous shade that’s got a nice level of pigment – since I’m so pale I always struggle to find blushes that blend out evenly and don’t make me look clownish, but this little beauty is perfect for that! I also got to try a free sample of their Hangover Primer, which did not disappoint. I have very temperamental skin, some days it’s oily and some days it’s as dry as a desert, but this primer is an amazing base for my foundation regardless of what my face is doing that day! Lastly, I picked up their Peanut Butter & Jelly palette. It’s a little small for its size, but that makes it the perfect travel palette; there’s a bunch of neutral everyday shades but also some popping purples and a pale gold if you’re feeling more adventurous! And in typical Too Faced tradition it also smells AMAZING!
Urban Decay; Original Eye Shadow Primer Potion, Kristen Leanne Eyeshadow Palette
I know, I know, another brand everyone raves about that I really should have tried sooner. I picked up Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and their new Kristen Leanne Palette, which have both become staples in my makeup routine. I’m not sure how I coped without an eye primer up until now, but this little tube of magic has seriously changed my life. Easy to apply and blend, it keeps my shadow looking fresh and in place all day long. Definitely a worth investment! The Kristen Leanne palette is also a new fave; I’m obsessed with bright palettes, and this one has just about every colourful shade you could ever want! I find myself reaching for it no matter what palette I’m using that day, just to add some extra colour. I especially love the green shade, and the central white and blue shades are stunning for a minimal base lid colour. 100% worth their price tags!
Lime Crime; Venus XL palette, Perlees Lipsticks & Matte Velvetines
I’ve been raving about Lime Crime’s quality for a long time now, they are easily my favourite high end brand. I love that they pre-pay customs for international orders, and their shipping is usually less than £10 and always arrives within a week! Most of all, I love how pigmented all their products are. Their most popular products, the matte Velvetine lipsticks, are available in a tonne of stunning shades, from brights to neutrals to darks, and they last for hours on end – yes, even after I’ve stuffed my face at lunch time! I’ve also tried one of their Perlees lipsticks – which are more soft metallic shades – and the quality is unbeatable; super easy to apply and lasts ages! My favourite product they make by far is their Venus palettes, including their newest edition to the collection, the Venus XL palette. I bought this beauty the second I saw it had been launched on their site and I’ve not regretted a single thing about it. There’s a bunch of stunning neutral shades in here, mostly pinks, but there’s also some fun brights that are to die for. If you prefer to be less adventurous with your shadows, this palette is the perfect pick; there’s plenty of options to choose from!
