March Media Faves Roundup

March Media Faves Roundup

Happy April blog readers! A new month means another roundup of media faves; a collection of monthly favourites relating to film, TV, music and gaming!

Fave Film: Annihilation

Badass science ladies venturing into the unknown? Incredibly realistic CGI environments? GINA RODRIGUEZ? Okay, I’m sold. It’s hard to tell you why Annihilation is the best film I’ve seen so far this year without spoiling about 80% of the film itself, but I’ll do my best. Amazing points; the soundtrack/original score is insanely good; beyond talented cast; plot twists & mystery galore; visually stunning. Bad points? Uh, I’ll have to get back to you on that, because I can’t think of any! If you liked The Arrival or Avatar, this is probably a film you’ll enjoy. Be warned though; you may have to sleep with a light on!

Fave TV Show: Riverdale

I love this show so much I actually wrote an entire blog post about it, so there’s not much new for me to say. The first half of the second season of Riverdale was a little more shaky for me, there were a few loose plot-lines & some messy characterisation, but I stuck with it in the hopes it would get better again, and I was 100% right. I might not always like the decisions the writers make on this show (if they fancy hiring someone new, I’m in!) but the last few episodes of Riverdale from this month have blown my mind. – Possible spoilers ahead – I am absolutely in love with Cheryl and Toni and their new relationship, seeing two powerful, realistic bisexual young women represented in the media is honestly a dream come true for me. I’m also digging the storyline in the Cooper household, despite Betty being one of my least favourite characters – she’s really become a strong character for me this season. I’m so excited to see where Riverdale takes us next!

Fave Album: Combat Sports, The Vaccines

I love The Vaccine’s first three albums & their latest release Combat Sports is just as buzz-worthy. Full of feel-good indie vibes, dashes of nostalgic rock’n’roll guitar & relatable lyrics about break ups, make ups and everything in between. The Vaccines are one of the few bands I can name that can successfully evolve between each album without losing their popular familiarities; they’re still the perfect band for your Tumblr hipster mixtapes, even when they go in a new direction.

Fave Game: Rise Of The Tomb Raider

To celebrate the wonderful news that a new Tomb Raider game is being released later this year, I did what any dutiful Lara Croft fan would do, and replayed the last game from start to finish. There’s not many new ways I can sell a game that came out three years ago – at this point it’s been reviewed to death. It’s still one of the best Tomb Raider games I’ve ever experienced, and always gets me buzzed to see where Lara will go next!

What are you absolutely loving at the minute? Got a TV show recommendation or a new favourite album? Leave me a comment below and let me know!
