It’s the last Friday of the month, which means it’s time for me to yell about all the stuff I’ve been watching on Netflix!
Fave Film | Deadpool 2
Holy sh*tballs, Ryan Reynolds has done it again. And you know, the other guys who made the film. Very seldom do I tend to think a sequel matches or beats it’s predecessor, but Deadpool 2 undeniably broke that rule (and a bunch of other rules, obviously, it’s Deadpool.) The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ returns to offer up witty one liners, plenty of unadulterated violence, and some surprisingly emotional twists that made me gasp so hard I spilt half a box of popcorn on the cinema floor (sorry Odeon staff members!) No spoilers as always, just go and see it!
Fave TV Show | Netflix’s Evil Genius
I’ve mostly been rewatching old shows I love lately; I seem to always have FRIENDS on in the background if I’m busy working on a blog post, and I recently finished a binge rewatch of The Vampire Diaries – and yes, the final episode ripped my heart out Damon Salvatore style all over again. My favourite show from this month isn’t a rewatch though, it’s a true crime documentary about America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist. I think everyone’s pretty much into the true crime hype – other people’s drama is usually better than our own – but this documentary intrigued me far more than any of the others I’ve seen lately. It’s a four part series that documents the aftermath of a bank heist on August 28, 2003 that took place in Erie, Pennsylvania. Brian Wells, a pizza-delivery man, goes into a bank and demands a quarter of a million dollars – with a bomb strapped to his neck. If that hasn’t piqued your interest, I can guarantee after watching the first episode you’re likely to watch the whole thing in less than 24 hours. It’s genuinely shocking and even uncovers some new details about the case that blow it wide open. If you’re a true crime fan or just enjoy a well made doc, this is a must for you.
Fave Album | LoveLaws by TT
Sometimes my favourite music discoveries are the most surprising or random. I’ve recently started to scroll through the new music section of Apple Music to find things I wouldn’t have normally listened to – I make a habit of saving new albums by artists I love, but now I’ve started to sample a few songs from a random album. Which is how I fell in love with Lovelaws from TT. Coincidentally, TT is the new stage name for Theresa Wayman, a member of a band I already loved, Warpaint, who I saw and fell in love with at a tiny festival in Leicester years ago. Her solo debut Lovelaws is everything I want from an alternative album; lyrics and beats to get lost in, each song sounds like it came straight from my late night contemplation playlist. Highly recommended to anyone into indie music, or someone who enjoys scrolling through Tumblr late at night.
